We have had an amazing adventure here at Chateau de Charly since we fell in love with the place and moved here in November 2005. We have poured our hearts and souls into reviving and creating a beautiful home and successful business. It has not been easy, but it has been the most rewarding experience we have ever had. What we have achieved far exceeds anything we envisaged at the outset.
We have lived a true French life in the heart of France and have integrated into all aspects of the community, just as you would in the UK. Our first child Verity was born here in October 2007. We have no regrets about the choice we made, we have experienced what many people only dream of doing and we feel very lucky for the time we have had at Chateau de Charly. It is with heavy hearts that we now are selling the Chateau, but family comes first and foremost and we need to be in the UK once more due to family commitments.
As such Chateau de Charly provides is a unique opportunity for someone who wishes to ‘live the dream’. We have put so much time and hard work into creating what it is today. I challenge you to find another place that is as well appointed and in as good a condition, with the huge potential it still has, for the price we are asking. We would be very happy to talk to anyone who is considering a change in lifestyle, all the hard work has been done!
General Information on Chateau de Charly
Within 30 minutes drive from Bourges, Chateau de Charly is an elegant and spacious home, in a neoclassical style with some 750m2 of living space.
Chateau de Charly is located in the heart of the Berry Region in between the major towns of Bourges and Nevers. The region is rural, quiet and tranquil. The Chateau is situated on the edge of the village of Charly and also less than a mile from the village of Blet where there is a small shop, boulangerie, pharmacy, butcher and post office. The local school is at Blet.
Links by train from either Bourges or Nevers are excellent, both being a 2 hour journey into central Paris. The nearest airport is at Tours, some 2 hours drive, where there are daily flights to London Stanstead. For a wider range of destinations Charles de Gaulle is 3 hours drive from the Chateau.
After passing through the entrance gates, the house is some 150 m down a tree-lined drive, set in the middle of the 32 acres of park land, away from roads. The Chateau was built in 1838 and is constructed from local stone with a slate roof (which was recently replaced). The rooms are extremely well proportioned, with 3.8m ceilings and large 3 m windows which lend a light and airy feel to the house. Recently refurbished, the house is in exceptionally good order.

The Chateau has a huge attic space perfect for expansion; it is of the size that it could easily accommodate a further floor. There are a number of buildings perfect for renovation.
